As well as routine surgeries, the doctors and Practice Nurses provide a range of medical services and clinics which include:
The practice provides a full service for our asthma patients, including yearly reviews, spirometry and many aspects of respiratory medicine.
Patients with a medical history of vascular disease are offered yearly reviews, monitoring and regular assessment where necessary under the care of Sally Brind.
Appointments are made by referral only. Clinics are held by Sally Brind at different times throughout the week at The Avenue surgery. In addition patients are offered the opportunity to benefit from specialist input from the community diabetes team.
Smoking is the single largest preventable cause of ill health in this country. It is a major cause of cancer, heart attacks, angina and chest diseases.
- Do you want to stop smoking?
- Have you got some will power?
- Are you available for regular monitoring and support?
If so, individual help by trained practice nurses can be arranged on most days but must be booked in advance. Advice and information is available on nicotine replacement therapy and drug therapies. Please ask a receptionist for details. Please download the following questionnaire and return it to the surgery before you make your first appointment

Contraceptive Advice and Services
If you would like advice on any aspect of contraception, fertility awareness or sexual health, please make an appointment with your GP or a Practice Nurse. Dr Rushton rovides a family planning service in the form of Mirena coil fitting and is qualified to insert long acting contraceptive implants.
Our doctors are trained in a full range of minor surgical techniques and we offer a minor surgery service for many procedures. Please make an appointment with your doctor to discuss this.
Reminder cards will be sent to women aged 25-64 when their smear is due. Please book a "double appointment" to ensure the nurse has sufficient time with you. Follow up letters will be sent out to patients who have not attended and are overdue for appointments. It is vitally important patients attend for this service.
Women over 50 years of age will be called to attend at the nearest local clinic for a mammogram. Appointment letters will be sent to the patients who are required to attend every three years. The results are sent directly to the patients as well as to the practice.
The Midwife may be contacted at the Princess Royal Hospital. Telephone: 01444 441881 ext. 8414, between 08:30 and 09:30
